ADDICTION!!
Sheila Thomas -- 14 Jun 02

This posting was inspired by chuckling at Barbara's p.s. under FIMO!!!
I think we should start a group! C.A.(Cardaholics-Anonymous)!!!

"My name is Sheila and I first realised I was addicted when a friend brought me a Birthday present recently. I became very excited by the little gold shreds that it was wrapped in, rather than by the actual gift itself!
The afore mentioned shreds are now reposing in a box labelled"Glittery Things to stick on Cards"!!

Love Sheila T xxx
P.S.Being ever aware of our politically correct society the above posting is not meant to undermine, poke fun at or generally upset anyone out there with a more destructive addiction!! xxx

Re: ADDICTION!!
Barbara C -- 14 Jun 02

I'm laughing!!
Someone somewhere must make a tower of clear transparent drawers, just larger than A4 would be fine, that stack on top of each other in a huge tower in the corner/on the table, so that all the 'glittery bits' etc can be stored in one area, but the contents would be VISIBLE.
Some drawers would need to be about gluestick depth, some could be shallower and subdivided, for beads, etc.
Come on now - who's got one? Or what do you use to keep sane? Barbara

Re: ADDICTION!!
Liz Gale -- 14 Jun 02

Have done the same myself, OOhing and AAAghing over the gift wrap , mulling over possible uses, and casting the gift to one side. Those who aren't similarly afflicted by the C.M. addiction can get quite nonplussed!
P.S. I love your sense of humour! Liz.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Christine Clements -- 14 Jun 02

We went to the Three Counties Show today, it was a lovely day out, but I have to admit that I saw everything in a different light, Could it be stuck on a card I asked myself? I have started to think of everything this way. I can truly say I believe I am past the point of no return, a card making addict.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Val -- 14 Jun 02

Love your "creed" for our addiction Sheila.I know what you mean. My family all open gifts very carefully so they don't tear the paper, in case mum/nana may be able to use it.My daughter is always saying to her hubby, "don't throw that away, mum might want it". I end up with bags of "saved stuff".Bubble wrap to put over my raised cards when mailing, so they don't get spoilt. The wrap paper goes to making gift bags.I save all good sized cereal boxes that have no printing inside, also Juice boxes, and cover them with gift wrap and put handles on.My friends are always wanting to buy them.It is very popular here to put gifts in pretty bags.As for Barb's plastic tower of boxes I have a few of those in my craft room containing all sorts of things.
I think some of us should get medals with all the "re-cycling" we do!!!!!
Val

Re: ADDICTION!!
Barbara C -- 14 Jun 02

Perhaps we should call ourselves the Glittsockers. Work it out from Sheila's confession - not so much the gift as the wrapping!

I get my bubble wrap from Tesco's, when there are not many apples left in the boxes.

So is this another glittsoc Val or have your plastic towers a manufacturer's name? I really mean it - I MUST either sort it or throw it, I can hardly work for ickle bits! Barbara

Re: ADDICTION!!
Linda Hart-- 14 Jun 02

I read this poem yesterday in an old Australian Paper Arts mag, and thought "The ladies on the forum would identify with this" but considered that it might be too long to post. However, seeing as Sheila has given the ideal intro - make a cuppa ladies, and sit back and enjoy!
(Acknowledgement to the poet, Sharnie Riley)

It all began with just one stamp
Amd just one stamp pad too
Of course, things couldn't stay that way
And shortly, I had two.

This was quickly followed
By more stamps (three and four)
The craving had now started
I wanted more and more.

A teeny weeny garden set
With a lovely rose
The cutest little teddy bear
Must have one of those.

A couple of those inkums sets
A rollagraph or two
And then another coloured ink
For stamping I must do.

I really love those bear stamps
And country ones are nice
I see that Penny Black
Has some lovely little mice.

I think that I'm addicted now
It started just last year
I now can't pass a catalogue
Without just one more bear.

And then I joined some stamping lists
Upon the internet
From here I learned of other things
That I must really get.

I want to try some brayering
And pearl-ex powders too
Stamping on polymer clay
There's lots of things to do.

My husband is somewhat bemused
As are my children (three)
As I produce yet more stamped things
Keen for them to see.

And now I'm signed up for some swaps
One's a birthday card
The other is a teddy theme
Now that can't be too hard

I'd better go and start them now
I've six of each to do
I want to get them in the post
And then start something new......

Re: ADDICTION!!
Pamela -- 14 Jun 02

Not sure if you are interested by look at the Lakeland site (?www.lakelandlimited.co.uk or .com) and they have four clear shoe boxes at about £12 odd which I think could be very useful - am seriously considering these and also some mesh zipper bags diff sizes which could also be useful. All see through and the boxes are stackable.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Suzzette Naylor -- 14 Jun 02

My towers (3 see thru drawers) I bought in Office World (get loads of stuff there) Not expensive and I have three sets one on top of another. ( 9 drawers in all) Not nearly enough, but a start. And 'plastic shoe boxes' they have in Homebase and such like, made by curver £2.00 each (lids poss extra) But they stack as well.

As for addiction, it comes to something when a coat hanger is found in the Vestry at church and a 'friend' says, "Give it to su, she'll make a card out of it" su

Re: ADDICTION!!
Janice Collins -- 14 Jun 02

I have even been known to grab sweet wrappers from the grandchildren because they looked as though they might come in handy! My family think I'm mad and my husband keeps threatening to have a 'craft room sale' in stead of a car boot sale!
I have got four of the clear boxes from Lakeland, they are meant for shoes but are great for storage as you can see what is inside at a glance. I also have loads of clear plastic zipped wallets for keeping things in like T-bag papers, paper pricking stencils, embossing stencils etc etc. When I give demos and workshops I just pick up the correct bag and box(es) and go - well, that's the theory anyway, it's worked so far but there's always a slip twixt cup and lip they say!!! You can get too cocky, can't you?!

Re: ADDICTION!!
Sheelagh -- 15 Jun 02

Hi Sheila,

I want to come clean, admit to all and sundry that I too am addicted, I know I will suffer withdrawal symptoms when on holiday, what do I do.... I have been known to ask family NOT to write on the front of birthday card envelopes as the envelopes are so lovely, I can make baby envelopes from them, and as other have said, you do not look at normal things in the same light.

I recently bought 50 hair clips at Bovingdon market for £1 would you believe - they all had dear little teddies, dolls, minnie mouse etc/. so I sat and removed them one by one from the clips, they are all sitting in a box awaiting inspiration.....

A bacon box (cheap shop 2 for £1) ideal for those baby shells, paint brushes, scissors, brush pens, and smaller boxes with several compartments - ideal for beads, confetti, (Cheap Shop 3 for £1) all in their own clear little boxes.

I have even bought 3 now of the 3 big drawer trolleys for under the craft area. One drawer is full to the brim of stamp pads, next embossing powders and punches, next cut sheets of mulberry paper, gift paper anything suitable for backing. And so on and so on. I have bought 6 shoe boxes from B&Q for 9.99 - that was a bargain. I should have bought at least 18 more, but I would need steps to get to the top one.....

Is there no help for us? will we ever be able to use all that we have before the bug bites once more? It started so innocently one silver embossing powder, one clear stamp pad and 2 rubber stamps, that was only the beginning.

But the upside is obviously all the lovely people to speak to and share things with on this forum, at craft fairs, clubs, Craft Inspiration, being involved with workshops, so many ideas, so many crafts, so many genuine people. I would not change a minute of it.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Elaine -- 15 Jun 02

Thank you so much ladies for all your help and advise on How to become an Addict!! lol
I am relatively new to card making and went to my first stamp fair last Sunday and discovered all sorts of wonders.
I have been cross stitching for 15 years and now I have to make more space in my spare room for all the lovely card making bits. Keep up the good work ladies and keep all the lovely ideas and cards in the gallery coming.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Chris Pomfret-- 15 Jun 02

yes I've got it too...boxes of hair ornaments that I have cannibalised....nothing gets overlooked glad to know that there is not just me driving the family mad..... I have recycled a wheely veg trolley I must be a very sad person.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Glennis -- 15 Jun 02

Wow! ! I did not realise that other people collected bits and pieces from unlikely sources as well as me. My spare bedroom cupboard is getting more and more boxes in it. Love the idea of a clear plastic tower - what an advantage that would be - instead of hunting thru different boxes to find just the right background.
Keep up with the good ideas
Glennis

Re: ADDICTION!!
Eileen James -- 15 Jun 02

reading through the messages today has helped me so much. I was beginning to think, that what my son said was true "mum your roof has gone". Compulsive hoarding, catalogues, craft magazines. You name it. I also do eggcraft, so if you add all the tools, decals, decorations, stands etc., plus the glues, not to mention the paints. Please don't mention those. You might think that the rest of you are not beyond help. At least you are mainly concerned with one craft. I egg, quill, pergamano, seize every free cd disc around.Forgot to mention cold porcelaine. That takes up another box all on its own. I have been known to go around with some of that in clingfilm inside my bra to warm it to make it easier to roll.Wonder if it would work with fimo. I often have pieces falling out of my bra when undressing which has been inside all day. Now, who thinks they are addicted?

Re: ADDICTION!!
Heather -- 15 Jun 02

Gosh my sides are sore from the laughing!!!

I cannabalised my sons water game (one of those things where you press the button and try to get the itty bitty hoops over the stick - in this case rockets - OH JOY OF JOYS - baby rockets - how handy would they be for ?SOMETHING?) - he didn't want it any more - I SWEAR!! I had to hit it with a hammer to break it open enough to get the good stuff out!

I have a long winded poem too so I hope you haven't finished those coffees!

THE STAMPER by Jackie Saxby 1999

I started out with just one stamp
and when I bought some more
I decided that a shoe box
Would make an ideal store.

Then as I added inks and pens,
My stamp collection grew
So I bought a roomy plastic crate
It would last for years, I knew.

Embossing then became my thing
With powders and a heat gun,
Metallics, tinsels, pearls and clear,
I soon had every one.

By now my lovely plastic crate
Was spilling everywhere
And my glitter glue collection
Lay scattered on a chair.

My husband started muttering
And said things had to stop,
So I bought a huge old wardrobe
At the local charity shop.

But after a while,
I couldn't shut the door
And I put shelves in the spare room
To accomodate yet more.

Our house is now for sale,
Something larger being sought,
By the way, did I show you
The latest stamp I bought......

DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?????????

I have 7 sets of four clear drawers that have a locking closure - so the contents don't fall out in the car - and a couple of clear crates under the bed and there are my stamps in the cupboard and that box or two under my sons bed oh! and there is the basket in the loungeroom and did I mention the pile on the kitchen bench (but that is just what I'm working on at the moment you understand) and I think I left some at my Mum's house and there is what my friend has borrowed................HELP DO YOU THINK I HAVE BECOME AN ADDICT TOO??? It all started so innocently!!

Re: ADDICTION!!
Lindajane -- 15 Jun 02

Thank goodness - my symptoms are recognised! I save all the washing powder tablet boxes (with 7 in the house that's a fair few!) and shoe boxes, glass jars, packaging, kids castoffs and my weakness for remnants is legendary! I'm so relieved I'm not alone!! hugs of support to you all! Lindajane.x.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Sheila Thomas -- 15 Jun 02

THANKS GIRLS!!I feel almost normal now!!How I have enjoyed reading your confessions!!Loved the poems!Oviously someone has done research on this affliction in the past!I get my bubble wrap from ASDA'S banana boxes, along with handfuls of free A.O.L discs smuggled under my tray of yoghourts!I have the plastic drawers, boxes, wall shelf units, old kitchen cupboards, boxfiles.plastic wallets that you mention!!
Have none of you brought home the strong black(stacking!!)tangerine boxes that Sainsburys give out??!These are wonderful for large pieces of card, wrapping paper or"things you dont want to bend!"etc.etc.
This morning my husband picked me up from a
Work Shop at our local craft shop.He nearly had a fit when he saw me paying for(I wasn't quite quick enough!!)a packet of hessian(Or"piece of old sack"as he called it!!I'm afraid I am beyond help!
Finally!is this sad or what??!!I have considered writing into my will what I would like doing with all this TREASURE! as anyone in their right minds will dispose of it a.s.a.p!!!

p.s EILEEN!the state of your underwear does not bear thinking about!!

Re: ADDICTION!!
Barbara C -- 15 Jun 02

Great, great stuff everyone. Now we've all confessed and had a good creasing laugh!
I think my problem (1 of) is that anything that comes in sight that could store anything has found its way to my craft room. As this is also my spare bedroom when my sister comes up, and at the moment you can't see the bed, I must make rapid changes. Stacking, matching boxes is my best bet I think, so that it looks tidy even if you cannot get in the door.
Thanks for the Lakeland shoebox tip - must have missed them - and the little fisherman's friend trays will solve all the itty bits. I haven't had my mind on the job have I? Must get along to B & Q too. Thanks! Barbara

Re: ADDICTION!!
Val-- 15 Jun 02

Eileen, I too do many, many crafts, but I really laughed at the bra bit for I do that all the time with the porcelaine and gum paste while I am working with it, keeps it in perfect condition. I even teach my "ladies" to do it in class, saves so many problems. The male section are out of luck!!!!!!!! Yes ladies, I do have men that like to make flowers.
Still chuckling, Val

Re: ADDICTION!!
Julia Short-- 15 Jun 02

Having just returned from two weeks holiday in west Wales, and finding 513 messages to catch up on, I was really delighted to read about Addiction!!. I am not MAD after all or if I am there are alot more like me. Anything and everything is collected and I save the little plastic trays that cherry tomatoes come in for collecting small items that just might be usefull.Keep up the good work girls - you have made me feel much better.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Eileen James-- 16 Jun 02

my!! underwear looks no worse than it did without the porcelaine bits They are safely wrapped in clingfilm!!

Re: ADDICTION!!
Rukhshana -- 16 Jun 02

Your postings on this subject have cheered me no end. Because I share space with our office I am always short of space. However after reading about the number of boxes & drawers you all have I can see I don't have nearly enough stuff so now I won't feel guilty next time I buy anything!
By the way I have all my stamps in a multi drawer unit the sort they use in offices for storing paper. It keeps 1 layer of stamps & I can open the drawers & see exactly what I,ve got. Also mushroom boxes (the plastic ones) free from Tescos are great because they stack one way & nest the other. My larger papers are in a flower carton because they stand neatly rolled up. I know rolling is not the best method but there is nothing else I can do. We have drawers under our beds (which are full) so under bed storage is very limited. Odd bits & pieces I keep in storage crates. I find cheapo pound shop places have quite good boxes etc for storage. My basic kit of glues, rulers, sticky tape, scissors is in a plastic toolbox with compartments & a tray that comes out. I bought it for about 3.99 & it is so useful to just pick up & carry around to where I need it.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Avril -- 16 Jun 02

Eileen

Would cotton wool padding not be more comfortable?

Re: ADDICTION!!
Rukhshana -- 16 Jun 02

Gosh so much cheaper than silicone implants! Reminds me of when I had my sandwich shop. When undressing at the end of the day I always found bits of lettuce & other edible stuff inside my bra. God knows how they got there it wasn't that sort of shop!

Re: ADDICTION!!
Sheelagh -- 16 Jun 02

FURTHER CONFESSIONS - I admit I have a very large craft room that also serves as my office, it has wall units, cupboards, desk and a 3m worktop along one wall and all the other stacking boxes you would ever want.

But I am guilty of spilling over into the next room, which happens to be a downstairs bathroom, complete with bath (well it was there at one time) and sink. Well we have a perfectly good bathroom upstairs complete with shower, I could not see the point in having the downstairs bath - taking up ALL that valuable space, so a few months ago, out it came, in its place are base and drawer units and wall cupboards, all painted in Aqua each with wooden knobs and a hand painted daisy on each one. Looks fab, but visitors think it somewhat odd.

But that is now full, of all my stored stuff that I do not want within reachable distance, soooooo I am thinking of adding cupboards into the utility room which is on the other side of the craft room. My husband is in despair, isn't any room safe from cupboards stored with important - must have - might get round to using - might be useful for someone - just in case - too good to throw away - CRAFT.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Jane -- 16 Jun 02

You made me smile! We move to a three bedroom house to have more room-but the third bedroom has no room for a bed-yes.You've guessed it-It's full of cupboards and drawer units full of stamps, card etc!!!!!!! and just the other day i added to it with a pine drawer unit to hold even more!
Happy stamping!!!!!!

Re: ADDICTION!!
Carolyn -- 16 Jun 02

Poundland have 'in trays' at the moment that clip on top of one and other, ao they are a depth of about 5cm. I bought 4 to put all my card in - much neater now.

I get bubble wrap from Tescos - in prepacked tomatoes and mushrooms as well as the apples. They must think we are strange taking the rubbish home with us!

I also keep all shoe boxes and cereal boxes for storage and mail packaging and I get really possessive when the school wants the children to take one in for a modelling project!! Quite silly really when a seven year old is saying I want to take the box my trainers came in, and me saying 'it is a nice box, take this one in!'

Carolyn

Re: ADDICTION!!
Avril -- 16 Jun 02

I have never laughed as much at what a bunch of wallies we are! Between stuffing our bras with - I don't what it is but certainly doesn't sound comfortable to shelving toilets, bedrooms cubby holes and anywhere we can. Then I remembered I'm not much better myself. I moved house 18 months ago and movedin with friends. My other dear friend got all this "stuff" in bags and she still doesn't know to this day what she had in her spare room. A real fire hazzard and she thought it was bed linen etc. Then my husband and me are fond of the chinese. Oh those we plastic carry out dishes are great with snap on lids. After every carryout they are put in the dish washer and washed. They are so handy to see at a glance what you have. here I put all my sticky on things for cards and my husband bought me a three drawer trolley and you would think they were part of it. Everyone thinks I'm so organised!
You see us grown up wallies are really recycling bins! Nothing like being resourceful!
Isn't it a good idea the men don't bring in their bits and pieces too. I could imagine my house with baler twine, castrators, de-horners,links for the draw-bar, dung, and whatever else the farmer has!

Re: ADDICTION!!
Rukhshana -- 16 Jun 02

Dung, Avril? Well you know there was some artist at the Tate Gallery who specialised in works of art made with elephant dung so your husband's (well not actually your husband's) might come in handy. Scented inks are all the rage at the moment!!! As for the castrators ... there are days when I wish I had a pair of those lying around the house!

Re: ADDICTION!!
Colleen MacLeod-- 17 Jun 02

Well if ever I needed a laugh it was now and have I had one - this list is a good dose of medicine! Avril and Rukhshana - being a lady who was raised on a farm I found you both hilariously entertaining with your mention of farm gadgets let alone the dung! Eileen and Val with their bra contents etc and then add to that everyone's hoarding habits, I would have to be cheered reading it all.
I bought 2 Compaq computer desks - one an office reception desk for a shop and the other to go behind it having bought them for $50 each secondhand. The plan for a move shortly we hope to another home is so that I can have these two desks joined together and brilliant for cardmakers get togethersbut the computer will have to have a new desk! One houses the computer while the ex computer desk still awaits sorting out but for the grandson and the other is in my craft nook filled to overflowing. I have drawer units along the back of it stacking higher almost weekly and 4 28 litre caddies beneath in the leg room space with caddy trays and a compartmentalised suitcase for mobility when required. The compartmentalised suitcase is a cheap shop find while travelling in the caravan, bought in Sydney for $12.95 and a boon. I have a very wide and tall bookcase in our bedroom where reading books are being doubled rowed to make room for the craft books etc. Obviously we all found our niche in life didnt we and can share it all here for a laugh. Thanks one and all.
Love Colleen

Re: ADDICTION!!
Eileen James-- 17 Jun 02

cotton wool might be more comfortable, but you have completely missed the point!! Cold porcelaine rolls out easier if it is warm. Now I wrap some in cling film, put it inside bra, the phone rings, doorbell after and having a senior moment, forget the piece already warming and add a second. Hence by the end of the flower making session, I usually have a few extras which have been warming and forgotten.Used to be quite a shock when it thumped on the floor when undressing, now all part of life's norm??

Re: ADDICTION!!
Sheila Thomas-- 17 Jun 02

It is obvious by the massive response to this posting that we all needed to get this off our chests(especially Eileen!)!!!!??
My FINAL comment is that I shall shortly be sending a list off to David(C I)of all the things up for grabs if (Heaven forbid!)anything untoward happens to me(my craft room in itself is a major health hazard!!!)
I want NO unseemly fighting over my little gold shreds,my tangerine boxes and my recently acquired (piece of old sack!!)
I trust you all to show some restraint!
Thank You !
Sheila T xx

Re: ADDICTION!!
Avril -- 17 Jun 02

Colleen

Those were the things I wouldn't want hime to bring in, but wait to you hear what I've brought in. You see our house is newly built on an old fashioned theme. I am fond of vintage machinery etc. On my hall walls I have pitch forks, different types of peat spades, old saws, and hopefully when I get them off the machinery metal wheels. I'm only taking it off this particular machine as I have two of them. Then there is the old traps that poachers used, tractor seats (only because the tractor won't come through the front door) plunge churns, milk buckets and creamery cans, plus butter making equipment. I'm going to restore the old machinery for outside. My husband bought me a MF35 of a local farmer who was retiring and I have my mind set on a TE20 if I could get one locally in good order. So you see I have no room for his bits as well. I bought 2 make believe chickens (hen and cock) for the kitchen just to set the theme.
My husband needs new wellies and I'm taking his old ones for to plant out with flowers for the front door. There is plenty of holes in them and will only need a few more for drainage. Who would believe I was brought up a townie? That is why I call my business Standing Stone Hill Farm Country Crafts as I have married the two loves of my life (outside of my marriage of course)!

Re: ADDICTION!!

You don't know what you started here,Sheila!

What a sad, sad lot we are.
Oh NO - that can't be right
Our bras and all our rooms are stuffed
Craft is our delight

What a happy lot we are
Oh that sound so much better
If all else fails we're glued to our chair
Writing the Forum letter.

Better at full voice to the tune of 'Grand old Duke of York'

Re: ADDICTION!!
Eileen James -- 17 Jun 02

this is a p.s. after reading my message, I suddenly remembered my mother's warning. Always make sure you have clean underclothes on in case you have an accident. Now what on earth would hospital staff think when undressing me and finding all these odd packages. My underclothes would fade into insignificance. Probably the resident psychiatrist would be sent for post haste. Re the miffed message regarding lavender fairy stamp.I love watching these shows, make a mental note of what's on offer then start searching sites, not forgetting our main one. Re. the incire templates, I have found some fantastic but one I thought would make lovely border thing is useless. At least to me. Anybody want the number of the thing?

Re: ADDICTION!!
Pamela -- 17 Jun 02

Eileen, Rukhshana, Avril and everyone. I have just totally embarrassed myself in the office because I have been in hysterics. I have not been able to answer the phone and someone was on the verge of calling a first aider or security!! My dining room is awash with rolls of paper, stacking boxes, shoe boxes, plastic jars with pencils in, and you can't even see the dining table. And I've had to choose my new furniture based on how many drawers has it got!!
Eileen - if you got taken to hospital and they found those bits n pieces in your bra, they would probably either call the drug or bomb squads!
A wonderful cheery run of messages.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Heather -- 18 Jun 02

Dear Eileen,

Not too worry about the odd thigs us women keep in our bras. I was once at a scouting function (we were catering) and when I went for a meal break I brushed crumbs off my shirt only to hear a very audible tinkle. With all eyes glued I embarrassingly removed a rather large bunch of keys from my bra with an equally embarassed "Oh, is that where I put them?" With not a moments hesitation one male leader replied "stuff the keys, I'm wondering where the missing truck is!". Another time I was also in mixed company at a Christams party and only just mangaed to catch an item that fell out of my bra during a rather vigorous dance step. It caused quite a stir. Why? Because it was a duck egg I was hatching! What can I say - I didn't have an incubator and it seemed like the next best thing. Yes! It did hatch!
Heather

Re: ADDICTION!!
Colleen MacLeod-- 18 Jun 02

AVRIL!!! - you should be doing folk art painting on your collection and start selling that off in your business.
You have missed your vocation in life as I think you should be an Interior Decorator to take advantage of the 'eye for the unique' market place LOL!
I can see cards in the shape of tractors and ploughs, etc.... Thanks everyone, this has been fun.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Lynn Clark -- 18 Jun 02

Oh ladies how you make me laugh. I think this has been the best topic posted on the forum to date. My hubby laughs at me when I tell him I have to check and see what other secret addiction has been added. He tells me he is sure a doctor somewhere has a cure for the lot of us !! He also wonders if they haven't put something in the stamping pad ink that has made us all go off our rockers !! Kind of makes you wonder doesn't it.

Re: ADDICTION!!

Funny you should mention that Lynn!!!My husband mentioned that my frequent"glue sniffing"accounted for my happy smiling face and scrambled brains when surrounded by anything in the form of craft paraphanalia!!!???

Re: ADDICTION!!
Avril -- 18 Jun 02

Oh Heather

I would dearly love hens. How long do you keep these eggs warm and what do you do at night? Could I hatch 2 eggs at a time?

Re: ADDICTION!!
Heather -- 19 Jun 02

Dear Avril,

Not really sure we have stayed on the tried and true CI track here but here goes:
It takes 21 days to hatch a hen egg.
You can hatch two depending on how big the err "holding" area is. But you need to keep them from bumping each other.
At night I put them in a container sorrounded by tissues in the waterbed with me - sick isn't it?
No you can't just do them in a water bed.
They need to be turned every six hours and not allowed to dry out (a waterbed dries them out but body moisture is juuuuust right).
And finally - if you want hens and don't want to get a rooster then you need to pick rounder fertilized eggs over pointier fertilized eggs to better your odds of hens. No I don't know why this is!!
Happy hatching,
Heather.

Re: ADDICTION!!
Veronica Coleman -- 23 Jun 02

Dear Barbara C,
Clear plastic drawers for storing all those ods and ends we all keep 'just in case'. How about using the ones they sell at the d.i.y. stores for storing nails, screws etc. They come in assorted sizes and price but all with see through fronts and some even see through tops as well.
Good hunting, veronica

Re: ADDICTION!!
Barbara C -- 23 Jun 02

Thanks Veronica. I think I shall have to get some of these for the tiny things. I have far too many different containers that don't stack. I do have a ten-drawer A4 size cardboard 'chest' so I must just sort and plan - and THROW OUT!

When throwing out remember the 'mystery paraphernalia' envelopes, what you don't want someone else might. Contact Colleen for more details or read the archives. I think that CI should stock storage packages for addicts like us! We could pick them up when we go! Only joking David, I'm going to be broke after the visit even more so if you had stacking boxes etc.
