|
|
I have just received a card with the following words in it:
"You could cry because he died,
Better to smile because he lived"
Although very appropriate in the current case, they are appropriate whatever the cause of death. Not my words so I cannot put them in the verses section. |

| I have to send a card to an aunt, her husband died a week ago. He was my last uncle on both sides of the family. I have the card made but couldn't think of what to write inside and now I will use those words. Thanks you for sharing them with us |

Native American Saying
May the stars carry your sadness away,
May the flowers fill your heart with beauty,
May hope forever wipe away your tears,
And, above all, may silence make you strong.

| Katharine, I think those words come from a lovely poem that was read at the Queen Mother's funeral service, I have the details somewhere and if I can find them, I will post them on here. I sent it to my brother when his partner died very suddenly and he thought it was the most beautifuyl thing he had ever read, and so appropriate to the person being remembered. |

Found it!!!!!
You can shed tears that she is gone
but you can also smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back
or you can open your eyes and see all she has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live in yesterday
or you can try to be happy for tomorrow, because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she is gone
or you can cherish her memory and make it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
or you can do what she'd want you to do:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on. |

| Thanks Hilda, I'll print it out and take it with me tomorrow. The funeral is on Friday, tomorrow we go south and will be away until Saturday/Sunday. |

That's a lovely poem/sentiment - Another that I found recently was
Death leaves a heartache
No one can heal;
Love leaves a memory
No one can steal.
From an Irish Tombstone.
I found it on one of the verses sites, I don't remember which now.
Hope the funeral goes as you would wish, Katharine. |

Katharine, when my brother passed away, a dear friend sent us all a card with following verse.
'People come into our lives…. and leave us with sweet memories! Words cannot express or heal the pain of loosing someone so dear! Those who bloom in the hearts of others, never fade away…!'
Hope it will help to easy some of your pain tomorrow!!

| Hilda, I carefully printed out the poem you sent - in a nice font and colour, gave it a border etc and took them with me for Mother and Jayne. What did I find when we got to the service - my other two nephews were reading the self same poem. I had never come across it before last week! |

What a beautiful thread with so many appropriate and heartfelt sentiments. Thankyou everyone for giving your input. I will certainly have to remember these should I ever
need them. |

Always useful to have appropriate words to express our thoughts at such difficult times.
Thanks to all - have saved these (tho' hope I don't need them often!)
