Today I stitched some leaves using Joke de Vette's loop stitch. Why have I never done this before? It is for leaves and petals where a lot of threads come into a point. Instead of stitching each ray into the centre and having the same amount of thread on the back, you double stitch a small stitch at the base of the leaf, and then pass your threads under this at each stitch. This means you have hardly any thread on the back.
When John has photographed the card, I'll post it. It is called I for Jayne - yes you read that right! I'm not sure what font has been used by Joke in her latest book but I think her I looks far more like a J! I don't like her S at all. |

| I've done this stitch Katharine I like to use it when I'm stitching with variegated threads so that the blended colours show better .I think the stitches also lie flatter with this stitch |

| I agree with you Eileen that the stitches lie very flat. I'll be doing it again. I can't think why I haven't used it before! |

It is very effective and also saves lot of thread too!

Eileen's diagrams are very good - but she has omitted to say the dashed lines are on the back of the card and the full lines are on the front.
You make a small double stitch at the base of the leaf or petal to start the stitch. You may feel the need to reinforce the back with selotape at this stage. After that, you do the centre line of it and just the very small stitch on the back. The thread will now go down and through the loop so you go back up to the other side of the leaf.
Good luck, happy stitching! |

Eileen and Katharine, the information provided by you both, will benefit lots of us, especially those who love stitching.
Well done and thank you!
